Since the new Bankruptcy Reform Act went into effect on
October 16, 2005, the Debt Relief Law Center has stayed
totally current on the most recent changes. We are
still one of the top filers in this District under the new
law as well. Contrary to what you may have read or
heard about from the media, most people are NOT prohibited
from filing bankruptcy under the new law. First, all
new filers must first obtain credit counseling - a service
our office provides as part of your fee, through Consumer
Credit Counseling. You do not even need to go to
another office for this service. Second, the new law
prohibits "high" income filers from filing Chapter 7, except
these new income standards are so high that most consumers
are well below the maximum income allowed. For
example, a family of four would need to have income of more
than $74,863 per year before this new "test" even came into
consideration. Even if your family made more income than this
amount, Chapter 13 still remains a viable option.

Chapter
7 bankruptcies are most often used to discharge credit card debt and
medical bills. If the individual owns a house or car that has money
owed on it, then the individual decides whether to "reaffirm" debt by
continuing to pay for the secured item or "reject" the debt by giving up
the secured property. In a house situation, for example, one can
"reject" the real estate, and then often take up to 7 months to move out
(without making house payments in the meantime). Or an individual or
family can decide to keep their residence through bankruptcy by continuing
to make their ongoing payments on the property. There were over 2
million bankruptcies filed in the United States in 2005.
Chapter 13 bill repayment plans are often used by individuals to
SAVE their homes and cars from foreclosure and repossession. These
13 plans that are filed usually force the creditors to be paid back over
time with little or no interest, no late fees and give the filer up to 60
months to pay back their debts. In the Western District of Michigan,
the Chapter 13 Trustee operating out of Kalamazoo is literally handling
thousands of such attorney prepared and filed repayment plans currently,
including hundreds filed through our office.

We are the #1 filer of consumer bankruptcies in SW
Michigan, thousands of cases ahead of our nearest competitor. My
attorney fees are often hundreds of dollars LESS than what other
law firms charge, most of our cases are referred to Roger Bus
are by positive word of mouth. Chapter 7 bankruptcies and Chapter
13 bill repayment plans are the only form of law that I
have practiced for 30 years. Our low price can save you hundreds
in attorney fees, and you will receive personal, experienced
representation by the same attorney Roger Bus from beginning to
end!
3.
We have been in the same building location in Kalamazoo since
1983. Roger is third generation of the Bus family that has lived
within 1 mile of his current office location. All your forms are
personally prepared in front of you by attorney Roger Bus, who has
filed more bankruptcy cases than any other attorney in the Western
District of Michigan. We do not use paralegals or hire outside
attorneys to prepare your case. Our office staffer Elaine has been
with us for over 27 years. Roger handles personally all cases and
court appearances, he does not "farm out" or turn over your files
to other attorneys to represent you at any stage. You are not
meeting the attorney handling your first meeting of creditors for
the first time only a few minutes before your bankruptcy hearing!
4. We are located right here in Kalamazoo- we are not based out of
Grand Rapids, Detroit or Chicago- Roger Bus personally handles ALL
the cases filed from beginning to end- you do not have multiple
persons reviewing your file. We have a real physical Kalamazoo
office that is open 6 days a week that you can stop by at, we are
not just open part-time, or in a rental space, or available only
online to whoever may respond to you.
5. We represent clients anywhere in the Western District of
Michigan: including (but not limited to): Kalamazoo, VanBuren,
Calhoun, St. Joseph, Allegan, Cass, Hillsdale, Ingham, Barry,
Branch, Kent and Berrien Counties. I attend all my bankruptcy
hearings held for these counties, my office is located not too far
from the court itself (e.g. there are no extra attorney travel
charges for any clients living in these counties).
6.
Our Chapter 7 cases are done on a LOWER "flat fee" basis. This
entitles you to unlimited phone calls and interviews with our
office with NO future fee contracts to sign obligating you to pay
more for extra phone calls, meetings, review of any reaffirmations
received, your getting a complete and detailed copy of your entire
case, ongoing file work, etc.. No nickel and diming you after a
"retainer" is used up, no later attorney fees to be charged for
routine services, plus all your questions throughout are handled
personally by experienced and available to you consumer bankruptcy
attorney Roger Bus.
